Gujarat based designers SHYAMAL & BHUMIKA’s fashion collections strongly reflect a passion for craft & heritage.
Bhumika’s passion for textiles and fashion led her to study fashion design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Shyamal studied and researched fashion in London and Milan.
Nominated for best Indian wear in 2008 Shyamal & Bhumika design for several clients worldwide and have also designed for stars like Esha Deol ,Sonakshi Sinha, Dia Mirza , Hema Malini & the list goes on.
The designers are also involved in the research and revival of various dying arts and crafts.
Shyamal & Bhumika’s collection for Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 has a floral feel of a mystical garden. A line that is vintage inspired to give a borderline fairy tale feel.
A collection designed with floral inspirations of spring summer festivities with inspirations from the Romantic era, Edwardian details like asymmetrical layering. One sees high necklines from the Gothic era when sleeves lost their volume and became more fitted while the skirt hems were lowered to the floor. Pleats that emphasize this look have been used with firmer hand woven raw variety of silks teamed with fluid fabrics in Grecian drapery.
A versatile collection with haute couture influences to be worn at a destination wedding in a Parisian setting, a red carpet look for the Oscars, a wedding under the Tuscan sun or to wear while tying the knots on a beach in Cancun. A line that may not be very Indian in feel but definitely inspired by the rich textiles of our country.
For the fabrics the designers have used beautiful hand woven raw silks and a mélange of sheer embellished nets, silk satins, silk dupions, flowy georgettes and more.
Tone on tone thread embroidery with a hint of metallic thread using peeta & zardozi hand embroidery techniques to highlight the motif. Dainty rosettes embroidered with some shimmer sprinkled & decorated with pearls.
The colors have a dusty yet fresh pastel hue for a very subtle feel that will match a global setting. One sees colors like peach bloom, sand beige , rose dawn , moonlight , dusty aqua , chocolate brown , beaujolais wine and such eye pleasing floral tones in the collection .
The silhouettes have been inspired by the Romantic era , the Gothic era , the Edwardian era , the Grecian era and such . Empire waists & gently draped volumes suggestive of classics, layered flares, tented voluminous skirts , sheer embellished net bodices , corsets , bias flare maxis and gowns.
The collection has been accessorized with some bags to die for beautifully embroidered to a royal vintage feel.Bold embroidered shoes to glam up your evening. Golden flowers inserted in the hair and embroidered sleeves that can make a simple dress look amazing.
Bringing forth the “Royal Procession” a collection inspired from the splendor of India’s regal kingdoms depicting the designers’ interpretation of 16th century royalcouture.
Shyamal% &Bhumika’s collection has been influenced by the blend of rajput and mughal cultures of the royal era.
The sub continents weather, cultural exchanges through rajput-mughal royal alliances including weddings played an important role in developing a unique silhouette, craft and couture.
In this collection one sees elegant kalidaars with overlap jackets and ijaar pants, floor length princess gowns with trains, jaama inspired cholees, fitted bias churidaars, lehengaa saris, collared blouses, short jackets & shrugs inspired by the traditional ‘kotis’, contrast color saris that have exquisite placement motifs, multi paneledlehengaas with sequined layering and velvet applique, teamed up with flowy scarlet dupattas.Persian inspired embroideredjuteesadd a glamorous finish to the bottoms.

Inspired by palace carvings in true royal couture fashion each embroidered motif has been custom designed for a specific silhouette.Intricate threads have been embroidered in multiple layers to create striking patterns. The designers have once again drawn inspiration fromthe meenakari technique, used several age-old embroidery crafts to create a unique mix of colors, motifs and materials.
Shyamal% &Bhumika use rich raw silks, hand woven silk brocades, super luxurious light weight silk velvets, handwoven matka silks with an organic feel, crepe de chine, translucent georgettes to add mystique, georgette brocades in antique finish for an age old look.
Interesting use of color has always been Shyamal% &Bhumika’s forte. An unusual mix of rich jewel-tone colors with muted Indian earthy tones, gold and copperzari embroidery used against deep backgrounds to enhance the silhouette. A balance of color that fires your imagination.
Aloe with ruby pink &morroccan blue, fuschia with auric yellow, pewter grey with blue and crimson red, hints of walnut brown with grey and aloe green, sunflower gold with scarlet red and chocolate brown, golden creams with blackforest greens and teal blue, beige and ochre with olive black.
